Hi folks, I'm from a Tacoma forum (hence the screenname) but I was wondering about a lift kit for my dad. He goes hunting in some nasty stuff so nothing over 3", and it does go on the highway so it has to ride 'fairly well' for a jeep on the road as well as off it.

So far I've considered OME and Bilstein but are there any other brands I should look out for? King? Icon? Fox?

    Hey. Welcome to the forum.

Theres no one answer. Its not just about the amount of the lift. It's about track bars, Control arms, shock extension, bump stops, and other issues that are created by lifting a vehicle.

Is there one specific issue your concerned about? Or about lifts in general you should looking at?

Alright, I'll be a little more specific. As far as suspension goes, I only know IFS suspensions. So I don't want to go long travel (I'm not sure if jeeps have different suspensions than tacomas, sorry) so no longer UCA or LCA. No links, I'd want to keep the suspension pretty much stock so no extended shocks because it won't see any serious rock crawling, dune racing or jumps.

I'm basically looking for something that's somewhat on a budget, that rides better over slow speed off-roading, so I guess it'd be more of a budget rock crawler build vs a dune racer build

Lifts in general, I'm not sure how much different jeeps are from toyotas suspension-wise.

Jeeps have very different suspensions from toyotas so check out some of the JK builds here to get an idea how much modding fits your mood or budget. TeraFlex is one company to consider as they have lifts ranging from budget lifts and pro rock crawler. Other companies like RC should have something within your budget too.

Ah, figures. Do you know the name of what 'type' of suspension it is, so I can look up how it works and what not.

I'll check out some JK builds for sure, if I get any questions I'll post them in here instead of making a new thread

Welcome! I've found on the jeep, the Old Man Emu gives the softest ride in the street. I drove in a few jeeps, with different lifts, and personal feel the OME set up was the best compromise for soft ride and lift.

I have heard really good things about evo mfg 3" plush ride springs.

*disclaimer: I don't personally know anyone with these springs nor have I have I ever been in a jeep with them, just going off of reviews.

I feel some of it is personal preference too. I had Skyjacker Hydro Soft Rides in my XJ. I liked the ride for the light off roading I did. And I liked them on the street. So I put them in my JK. Still like them.

You probably already purchased something but if you have not then you would be amazed what your jeep can do with a leveling kit and quick disconnects. Especially on 33x1050r15x7. Rides like stock. Looks good too.

Also you can replace the shocks and springs froma 4 door Rubicon. This will increase the height and replace the twin tube shocks for monotube.

    Greetings,
HardHat, I really like the looks of your JKU. We have a 2017 Sport we bought a year ago, and I'm looking for good looks on a bit of budget. Could you contact me directly, I have a couple of questions about your message.
    Thanks in advance.

Dude.. @Quintin11. The last post was about 2 months ago. Wouldn't expect a response any time soon. But, there are other members that would be happy to respond if you ask for their opinions. Just sayin. :).

    +1

    Give us some info, like:
    • What year/model Jeep you drive
    • What your budget is ($100, $10,000, $50,000???)
    • What size tire do you want to run
Info like that would help others offer an opinion.

I like Teraflex too, but my vote is for him to put on 6" of lift, Wontons, Atlas, LS3 and 42s right away.
If you think about it there's really no sense in going for anything smaller:llama: :benchpress: :flexing: :transformer: LOL
