I have a tree air freshener that's "black ice" scent. LOL
Hi, I'm Rocket & I own a 4.0 Grand Cherokee that needs some TLC. Previous owner hit a deer so I just replaced the headlights, hood, grill and fender. The speedometer does not work but all the other gauges do. The AC/Heater don't work either, it barely blows. The airbag it smlight Alsooften comes on and off causing a ellsdimging. Any idea why ? There's a odor pretty bad from sitting so long and being a farm vehicle. Looking for advice on how to remove bad odors.( My thought was to vacuum thoroughly and try to shampoo) I have a airbag light that comes on and off often creating a dinging. Any input is MUCH appreciated! Thanks Ryan

I gave ideas in other post, as far as the smell - vacuum, foaming carpet cleaner, elbow grease, and lots of fresh air to dry the carpet, do you have a garage or place to work, leaving all windows open and a house fan blowing into jeep would be my plan -

Well only my front windows role down but I can open the hatch and such on a sunny day. Is it hard to remove the seats ? Seems like that would be a good way to clean a little better. Thanks again

my knee jerk is try without removing, they have wiring and sensors and the connectors get fragile after all these years- don't forget the rust - BUT hey if you want I try to get a fastener location diagram for you.

I will need to get the answers for the speedo and HVAC so likely will have to get into manual - my memory cant remember every system.... an old age thing coupled with BBQ and bourbon on weekends.

Welcome @Thatsthespirit .....before removing seats...though theres a few things worse than lingering cat piss odors (yuck), if the interior is wet airing out/drying out is a good first step followed by deep vacuuming the carpet/seats of debris>crap>etc. Local autoparts or Walmart sell a variety of foaming carpet/seat cleaners. Theres a limit to how effective those cleaners can do the job as serious spills (oil>body fluids>blood>coffee>etc can get deep into the carpet+padding requiring carpet removal/replacement. If you decide on removing seats then thats the time for either carpet removal for replacement or running no carpet. Hope you can get the odor issue resolved as you have a Jeep GC thats presenting a host of other major problems.

@Awrench I have manual air control not zone control. I'm not familiar with the vehicle yet since it's new to me. But but I Ihave automatic seats so no wires I'm aware of. I wasn't aware the back seats did more than just lean fwd. Do you know how to lift the back seats exposing the floor ? I apologise it's at the body shop getting new fender grill and getting painted or I'd check right now.
There's a lot of saw dust, crumbs etc between the console and front seat that's why I thought to remove from seats. How come you do not recommend this ? Is it hard ?

@aggex thanks for the advice. Is the carpet tough to remove ? Also do you have any idea if replacement carpet is pretty expensive ?

Carpet removal once the seats are removed is not too bad but will require some additional steps: door sill, seat belt, center console etc. This carpet work should only be considered after all other major issues have been resolved. The replacement carpet(s) are available from online venders and even the old JC Whitney for probably a few hundred. Again....resolve the other major issues first! Or if the odor is that bad go crazy and rip it all out without seat removal LOL

@aggrex I found it on eBay for the cheapest of $160. But I didn't think of it tucking so high under dashboard. This sounds like a problem for someone with very little experience.

@Awrench OK you meant flattening out the cargo area in the back of the seat, not exposing the carpet under the back seat. I'm afraid to achieve what I need I need to expose that area to clean and shampoo bc idk where the source of the smell is. How come you do t recommend removing the seats ? Hard to Rove, reinstall or other reason ? Thanks again for all your help!

@Awrench very much appreciated my guy! Any suggestions on better gas mileage ? It's the 2wd 4.0 model. So maybe spark plugs, "cold air intake" etc ?

Oh so CAI don't help ? I've heard both but I'm a idiot on cars. What about just a good air filter like K&N ? I didn't expect many options to +mpg

KN filters claim a lot of things. Questionable filtration or HP claims aside the cleaning+oiling get old fast. I'll stick with disposable OEM or Purolator air filters whenever possible.
