    Hello, everyone,

Name's Mike, live in Jackson NJ, and so far restoring antique radios has been my primary hobby.
I have owned Jeeps since 96, a Cherokee Laredo 92, and since 2009 a Grand Cherokee Laredo.
I dreamed about owning a Jeep ever since being a kid in a different country and now I am thinking of starting off-roading.
The GC I have is not well-suited for it, so I am sizing up buying a Rubicon JL.

Having no experience whatsoever in off-roading (other than crossing a super-raised grassy median after rain......successfully.....to get out of standing traffic, that was old Cherokee) I hope to find good advice here from experienced folks.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for having me, guys.

Any particular mods/additions I should get before getting on trail? What does make sense to order when buying the Jeep vs getting it aftermarket?
I probably should open a thread anyway.

Generally basic for novice trails: good tires, spare tire, jack, cell phone, flash light, water, snacks, first aid, rain poncho, ETC. Optional: buddy, basic hand tools, recovery straps, shovel, flares, high-lift/winch, ETC
The list is always expandable depending upon how remote and how long ETC

    TJ,

When buying a new car, it's a good time to splurge. Compared to a hole in the pocket the purchase is going to burn, the spare's price becomes noise :)
It's like being on a hallucinogenic: time warps, money loses meaning......until you come home and wake up the next day. So the spare should be bought at the time of the purchase. Not the next month. Or even the next day.
    It's a trip :) Use it up!

Welcome to the forum @morzh . I'm in Ocean Country NJ also too.
I'm not sure exactly where. But there is a light off road area near 6 Flags.

    Hey Bob,

I know a Bob in Ocean county with a JK :) - our sons are in scouts together, but it is probably not you :)
A light off road area near 6 Flags could still be Jackson :D

You being a local could probably point me to some local off-roading places and/or fraternities (MCP congregations will do too).

Nope... @morzh sorry. Not me. No kids in the Scouts....Not that I know of anyway. o_O.

Yup....the "legal" place in Jackson is a so called sand pit. Again. I'm not sure exactly where it is. But it is near 6 Flags.I know of a few off road clubs in Instagram that wheel there from time to time. If your interested. I could turn ya on to a few clubs that I know of there.

There's also Wharton State Park, down in the Pine Barrens. But it's just ALOT of mud holes. If thats what your looking for. And I guess you've heard of Rausch Creek out in PA if your up for a road trip wheelin trip.

Are you in Instagram? I could send you in the right direction of reputable clubs here in NJ.Theres numerous clubs depending on what type of offloading your looking to do. And....hate to say it. And what age group your looking to wheel with.

So in NJ the wheelers are segregated by age not sex or creed?

Not segregated. They just seem to flock together. If they were by wheelin sex. I'd be willing to search out them clubs. Just for comparison purposes of coarse..

PA all the way to Harrisburg for me is a near trip.
I go from Florida to Jackson in 15hrs and love driving in general, so...as we say in my first language, for a mad dog seven miles is no detour. In fact I am going to Kutztown in two weeks for the antique radio show.

If there's a bunch where everyone is between 20 and 40, I"d probably feel out of place.
40-65 is better. Or a mixed bunch. Let's just say that when the trucks are parked and the tents set, I'd rather hear Jethro Tull than Pink.

As for Instagram...... I don't participate in social networking as a matter of principle. No birds, no faces, only forums. Has served me fine so far.

    Hey Mike @morzh .
I'm with you. More my comfort zone 40 - 65. Pink Flloyd over Pink. Lolll. And I have no problem with long distance road trips myself either. Im hopein to get to Rausch Creek this summer. Ill definitely keep you in mind. I dont do any other socials. Just IG. It does come in handy for some good Jeep get togethers. And I don't get involved in the political bullshit that goes on in most all social media. Anyway. The Quadratec link i posted above with the Jersey Jeeps Clubs. Is most of the clubs that are legit clubs. They offroad on "legal" trails. And obtain permits if needed. And I know several of them put together trips to Rausch Creek and other off road trails in PA. Their worth a look see.

You headin down to Seaside for the Jeep Luau this Saturday?
