Hi, New member here. I'm in the market for a unmolested early CJ. V-6 would be nice. I'm in CT New England area. Thanks

The question you need to ask yourself is what are you going to use this for????? The 134 cid F head engine was available from 55 through 71. In my opinion, the best use of those is in a parade Jeep or museum piece. You will not be keeping up with any modern traffic. From 66 through 71, the 225 cid Buick V6 was an option. That was in my opinion, the best engine ever offered in the CJ's. Great low end torque and enough HP to keep up with traffic. That engine paired with the optional 4.88 gearing and an overdrive were the proverbial cat's meow. In 1972 there were a number of big improvements incorporated under the AMC ownership, the most important being the steering, brakes, and the open knuckle Dana 30 front axle. The engine options for these were the AMC 232 and 258 I6's and the 304 V8. While I never considered those engine options or the Dana 20 transfercase as improvements, the 72 through 75 CJ's are the best "off the shelf" CJ5's.

Now for the bad news. Any early CJ in good condition (read rust free) is likely going to sell for more than double your quoted price range. When looking at one of these, rust should be your primary concern. Look closely at the "hat" sections under the floors, the tool box bottom and exterior side, cowl sills, spare tire bracket support, rear tub mounts, and the rear cross member. All are rust prone areas. A good magnet is your best companion when inspecting. Good luck in your search.

I like the fact that it's all there original. it's only been listed for about 2 weeks. Going to look at it next week. I would take it for $3500.
