I need some help. I installed a new torque converter and trans pump recently and after getting it all back together, it wont start and it is making a noise like something is hitting as it turns. Flex plate and cps are new also. I cranked it a few times with the fuel pump relay out to prime the system and that went fine. But cranking with the relay back in, was not fine. At first it cranked in park but noisy like something was hitting, then after moving the shifter around a bit, it would not crank in park (only neutral). Same noise happens in neutral. Im going to adjust the park interlock and nss today, but any ideas what could be hitting? Why wont it turn over?

Is this a cadillac or maybe a jeep I am not a mind reader. :)

I agree with your adjusting shift cables, BUT what model jeep and trans etc would help.
The sound of something hitting, 1st thought is CKP* remove and examine,

    * Crank Position Sensor, in jeep speak..

The whole thing was apart and out of the jeep completely. Turns out one tq converter bolt shifted and that was the noise I was hearing. Also, the cable adjustments resolved the park issue. I did find a ground wire that had been damaged and that was causing the pcm to shut everything down after the first 3 seconds. The ckp is still giving me grief because it is not adjustable and the flex plate is very flexy. The tq bolts are only supposed to torqued down to 270" lbs, but because I had issues lining them up with the refurbished tq converter, it seems that the flex plate was bending a bit and not lining up with the sensor completely. A bit more adjustment needed but at least the mystery of the no start has been solved.
