Welcome to the forum Natalie. Possibly just running threw a diagnostic check. Are the other (edit) lights coming on also? Or is it just that one light? When is it happening? At start up, or just at random times? Could also be a loose connection.

    Again. Welcome.

Welcome! How do you define checked? Some basic things to consider as the oil light is an "idiot light": oil levels are best checked cold, correct oil viscosity?, beyond oil change interval? oil pressure checked with gauges?

Didn't mean to offend anyone. Just a term I've heard used for years. Not in any means referring to the owner of the vehicle. To avoid issues. I'll edit that out.

    My bad...."dash board warning lights".

From Wilkipedia: The "idiot light" terminology arises from popular frustration with automakers' use of lights for crucial functions which could previously be monitored by gauges, so a troublesome condition could be detected and corrected early.

I always check my oil when it's cold and she's not been running is that wrong ... Or should I check it after it's been running for a while ... I mean dip stick ...I'm definitely a girl and don't work on her ... But this oil light thing is just starting

Just a thought. On your way home from work, swing by an autoparts store, (autozone, Oreilly's) and ask them to check you jeep codes (DTC or Diagnostic Trouble Codes) You onboard computer will keep a record of them and they will be able to tell you if you have any and what they are.

The oil light should come on when you are reading a low or no oil pressure. First I would replace the Oil sensor $11 at Oreillys. See if this fixes your problem. The only other thing would be the Oil pump. These don't usually go bad.
