MT>AT achievable with some significant work. Cost effective? Problem with the MT? Far from a mechanic but these things come to mind that might be needed trans cooler, radiator with trans lines, shifter, console, flywheel, trans adapter, crossmember, trans mount, drive shaft, wiring harness, etc.

Not my first choice but replacing your MT with an AT model that meets your expectations might be easier than the work involved to make the conversion.

Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
Is this for the CJ5? Im not sure if it will even fit, unless you have moved your read axle back. On my CJ7 I went from a T150 3spd to a TH350 adapting it to the 258 motor and Dana 20 TCase. After moving my rear axle backwords and clocking it up because I had to install a double cardan drive shaft because I only had an 18in shaft which caused my drive angle to be too high for the standard shaft. The cost was more than it was worth IMO. If you truly have a T18, that is the best best MT for crawling. I looked for a CJ T18 for years, before I gave up and went with the TH350.
