Good day! I'm trying to sort out a potential transmission issue with my 2020 Rubicon. Twice over the past 9 months the jeep suddenly started bucking while driving, both times feeling like the vehicle down shifted into a much lower gear (even though it's an automatic). Issue went away immediately when I pulled the car over, put it in park and tried again. Hadn't given it a lot of thought until last week when I tried to start the Jeep in my driveway, and the Jeep refused to turnover at all, and I got error messages saying the Jeep was in drive (when it obviously was in park). All the accessories came on, so I know it wasn't a dead battery, but the battery eventually drained because I could not control some of the accessories like an internal fan since the car was not on.

We had AAA come out and the tech was able to jump it, but the engine died shortly after so he declared the alternator dead. We had it towed to a nearby service station with good techs and they said the alternator was fine, the battery had to be replaced...but after they did that they could not get the Jeep to go into gear and had to push the vehicle out of the service garage.

Next tow stop was the Jeep dealership. They said the (new) battery was low and charged it, they also mentioned rodent issues around the battery but did not see any frayed wires. I had done some preliminary online searches by this point and saw several references to transmission issues that sounded similar that ultimately required significant transmission work. I urged the dealer to look into all TSB's for this vehicle and so far they have only said that they can't recreate any of the issues. The vehicle is under warranty for 3 more months and I'm wary about just taking the Jeep back to have this pop up again right after the warranty expires.

Anyone reading a familiar story? I really think the battery issue was a secondary problem based on the car refusing to start because of the transmission issue, but I don't know how to proceed and I can't locate the relevant TSB's directly. Got any advice for me?

    Thanks!

Assuming the remaining 3 month warranty is with the Jeep dealer, keep all documentation, discussions, names and steps taken. Too bad the error messages couldn’t be replicated or found in the history. The potential damage from the rodent angle should be taken seriously as any wire damage could explain the issues. For now I’d follow that lead and continue the search to rule that out. Since the dealer couldn’t replicate the issues or error messages nothing is going to be discovered if the Jeep is left there.
