The noise may be from the wear indicators letting you know its time for brake service unless you have ignored it and now its metal-to-metal grinding. Inspect the rotors to confirm a smooth surface without ridges (otherwise buy a pair) and you can install a new set of brake pads, lube the caliper pins, tighten everything. Get caliper lube, pad spreader, brake cleaner along with the brake pads. I have used AdvanceAuto platinum pads on several vehicles with no issues. You can spend more for more performance but thats a different story. On some vehicles the rear brakes may wear faster (thinner) than the front or the inner pads may wear before the outer so you have to inspect everything.
Here is a neglected brake story when the teen decides to tell me....lol

Evolution is good brakes I would take 1 side apart and leave other side entact till you finish the first side that way it gives you a reference point if something goes wrong . I was changing drum brakes out at 12 years old I am sure you can handle rotors they are way easier also take a pic of it after you get the wheels off oh yeah and put antisieze on all the bolts when you put them back especially the lug nuts

Anti-seize is very useful for fasteners but could have an affect on proper torque specs. Some references recommend using thread locker for the caliper bracket bolts.

My wife drove hers to the point of the caliper piston being the friction point . New caliper , new rotors , and new pads was an expensive brake job on the fj cruiser.

Pulled the trigger on evolution brake pads last night. Should be in this weekend but not sure I’ll have the time this weekend to do it. Most likely next weekend, otherwise will have to be after Super Bowl party and don’t want to wait that long.

How much time should I give myself being I’ve never messed with brakes before?

Try to give yourself PLENTY of time. You definitely want to take your time and make sure you do it right. I normally take about an hour or 2 depending on how fussy the calipers and old pads wanna be. I'm sure you can do it in a couple hours no problem.

Question, on the thread locker. Is it for the calipers or for the wheel lugs? Don’t half a pressure nut gun so would be doing by hand.

Someone commented saying to use on caliper bolts? So do I need thread locker at all for anything? Or am I good just having the brake cleaner?

I've never used thread locker for the caliper bolts. Since I live in the salt belt normally the Ohio Department Of Transportation puts the thread locker on for me...
