    Hello,

I'm from Ohio and purchased a 98' Wrangler new but traded it in shortly after paying it off, about to be a proud Jeep owner once again :)

Welcome @MuttHowls ...twenty plus years and how things have changed as the JK/JL are considered SUVs in some circles.

Coil springs, four doors, framed doors..they certainly are evolving.

I’ve been all over the board on what to buy...early 70’s CJ and leave the stock look, lifted later CJ, lifted YJ, TJ, etc. I’ve heard rumors that the 3.8 liter V6’s in 2007-2011 had issues, is there any truth to that? Yeah, yeah, I know all the rumor jokes/sayings. :)

Some jeepers feel the 3.8 was low on power in the heavy JKU but on the trails low-speed and torque is whats needed. Test drive the 3.8 on your daily commute to see if it's for you. Reliability is a toss up as some owners have no issues while some report oil usage, leaks etc. Well maintained used 3.8 JK/JKU are out there.

    Welcome from Florida!

I use to have a ‘98 as well. Had to sell it when got 2nd kid. Too small for 2 child seats. I cried a little that day. Now I am proud owner of a 4door with plenty of room.
