You can adjust to top for a proper door fit by adjusting the angle of the windshield.

There should be some adjustment at the door hinges and latch if that is the fitment issue.

Oh yeah, the holes on the body at the hinges are a bit oversize to allow for adjustment.

Thanks Jim , I ll do some adjusting today. Also do you have any thoughts on how to shim up the windshield after some adjustments?
    Thanks

Not sure about any shims on the '76, You are looking to adjust the windshield angle to match the door. Check to see how you can do that. When I installed a new softop on my CJ, there was a dimension given from the top of the windshield to the top of the rear gate in the instruction sheet. It was made by Bestop, you could check with them as you have the -5.

Thanks all for the info, sorry I haven't had much time to follow up. Couple things on my soft top now that I that have finally been able to get it Installed properly. After reading up and researching. Some info is listed in the directions and some are not. Let the top heat up in the sun prior to the install. I replaced the rubber gasket between the windshield and the upper portion of the dash which was a huge game changer. The old one was completely shot and flattened. Slight adjustments on the windshield hinges, Jeep door brackets and with some adjusting within the lower portion of the best top door made the top fit almost perfect. The best top lower door has adjusting screws near the mounting brackets inside the canvas. I hope this helps for future installers.

BTW, If you ever roll up the rear window, it will eventually leave strap marks on the clear plastic window. I was able to eliminate that by attaching snaps at the roll bar and using the snaps to hold the rear window open. Although I did not mean drilling into the roll bar to attach the snaps, use a cloth band for that. I would think that would be applicable for the newer Jeeps also.
