SQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAK!

My 2008 FWD Patriot is going bonkers with suspension squeaking. I identified the offending bushing joint on the rear right wheel, and attempted to lubricate it with Blaster silicone lubricant. I'm not a mechanic just someone that occasionally tries to fix stuff. It still squeaky squeaks all day long. I recorded the sound of it (on paved concrete rd), and took a picture and video showing the joint. Has anyone else had this or a similar problem? Did you fix it and if so how did you do it? Looking for a low cost solution.

Not sure there is a low cost solution but if you can replace the parts yourself that would be some significant savings. Plenty of rust down there but some fasteners respond to penetrants moving onto heat and if that fails the rusted in rubber bushings/bolt may need to be cut off ETC. Plan on a parts purchase that may include the control arm, bushings, bolts and anything else that breaks during removal.

 

100% agree with @aggrex The job will go faster with an air/electric impact wrench. You'll have to get it apart to determine what all is wrong but rust is probably the issue. The bushing is going to be pretty cheap, under $15 I'd guess, but the rust issues may cost you more to resolve. Maybe less then $100 but labor will be a bitch if you have to pay someone else to do it. If you do it yourself, I don't think it will be bad.

 

Thanks for the ideas. I might still do the work, but a few days after lubrication the squeak is gone. I've noticed the squeak has often happened when it gets really cold outside and it warmed up (50 deg in Detroit) so it's possible that's what did it. I think it does seem to drive smoother from lubing everything. I used the silicone lube on all the door joints as well. Is there any place you shouldn't use silicone lube?

Thanks for the help. I was able to stop the squeak when it came back by spraying all suspension joints in the right rear with more silicone, but then I had to drive it slowly through some humongous pot holes to work it in and then it has completely stopped now for a few weeks. About the rust, if it's not a good thing, is there something I can do about it? Should I do something about it? I haven't worked with rust mitigation before. I have been searching online about rust removal chemicals and rust converter coatings. I'd like to keep the car for several more years, I'd like to not incur more rust damage, what do you recommend?
