My rear axle is leaking but not too bad but it does have a leak. I was told when I bought the Jeep that I would have to replace the seal. How do I do that?

Pop the cover off with a drain pan underneath as the fluid will dump out. Clean the mounting surfaces good and either go back with a gasket or some RTV.
LubeLocker gaskets are nice, but RTV is cheap.
Once it's back together fill it until you can touch fluid by putting your finger into the fill hole the your first knuckle.

Can you still add that info to change the axle shaft seals? And what tools would I need to get to it and remove it to replace it?

If you don’t know what ur doing I would take it to a dependable garage you have to pull the axles and take out the differential and the seals goes in from the center on the right and left.

Yeah I kind of did my research last night and I'm working on getting to places to get the things I need now. I didn't mean to say shaft seals, I meant front pinion. Was told from another guy in a Facebook group that the coiled wire is used with the seal, its supposed to hold the seal to the yoke, he said...sound about correct?

Sounds reasonable as I've done some investigative research on similar coiled springs in some contraceptives. Sometimes I wonder how it got tangled...never mind :notsure:

then that would mean the pinion seal is trashed. How would the drive shaft and yoke spin if there wasn't a seal there? Would that cause the drive shaft to be unbalanced or would it cause problems if the car was driven that way? Like vibrations?

The pinion seal just ensures the fluid does not leak out of the diff. Bad pinion seal won't stop you from driving however big leaks can cause problems quickly.

I have the tools and parts to replace the seal now and I'm about to go do the job. What else should I look for as I'm doing that ?
