Changed the power steering pump a few days ago due to it going bad so I went n got one from a junkyard and it works perfectly. My belt keeps coming off its tight it's on the right way. Just cant figure out why it looks like the tension pulley under the bottom of the powering steering pump is out of line.

As long as them pulleys are not in the same plane that belt will have unusual wear or spin off as you're experiencing. Might want to compare with a reman unit at Advance or Autozone

So I noticed the tensioner pulley is out by 1/8-3/16 of an inch. I bought a new pulley and same thing could this be a bent bracket. I'll bring the pump I have to the store to compare. I got the pump from a 96 Cherokee at the yard

Could there be a different size in between the pulleys?

Never seen a PS pulley alignment tool other than belt tightening tools. Perhaps a change in PS mount occurred between different years? Compare with reman PS pump at auto store? Possible for using shims on mount to align the pulleys? Just some thoughts...

I'm not familiar with the PS pump on the 4.0L but on some vehicles the tensioner might be suspect too.

Funny thing, my belt came flying off after the 4th or 5th start following my engine swap. Found the new belt needed to be re-tightened/tensioned due to the components finding there place after be re-installed. Good to go now though.

It looks like the entire assembly is crooked. If it was just the pulley it would wobble.

Billy, is the pump flush against the intake? No washers or anything between the two...
