    Hi all,
Looking to buy my first car(jeep cherokee xj) soon.
I am going to be using it as a daily driver, mostly for getting around town and carrying some light woodworking materials/tools. Not looking to go offroad really, but i want something that can handle rough dirt roads if needed.

Currently have my eye set on a 1999 4.0L Auto 4x4 in seemingly great condition, lots of minor things replaced recently, clean title and good tranny.

Please give me advice you have for first time car buyers, and especially things to look out for on used jeep cherokees 1997-2001 models.

I've read on some forums the tranny on these cars runs hot, would an intercooler solve this problem, or only help somewhat?

I think you're referring to an auxiliary transmission cooler. The aftermarket has a wide selection, relatively inexpensive and relatively ez to install. For a '99 probably not the first thing to be done but its a nice add-on to help keep ATF temps in check once the radiator/WP cooling system updates are complete.

Another that thinks you probably found the absolute best vehicle for your use. You shouldn't have to really change anything.
