Google is coming up with nothing. Does anyone know what this is? It’s underneath the driver side, adjacent to driver rear wheel well. The bracket is rotted out and I’m trying to figure out what it is, so I can order up a new bracket. It’s some type of module, or computer or something. I’m new to the mechanics side, and this is my first restoration project. This was the best pic I could get. This is on a 1998 Jeep Cherokee xj, 4.0.

@Prerunner1982 do you know of anywhere that I could get a new bracket for it?

Not right off, my guess your best bet would be a salvage yard or DIY.

Is that thing really necessary? What would happen if you just eliminated it?

OM, I've removed the emissions stuff before on older vehicles with no issue but since his is a 98 OBD2 vehicle I am not sure that it wouldn't throw a code or cause him to fail an emissions inspection.
