Has anyone removed the cig lighter? How is it done? I attempted a few things, like twisting it off, with no success. Thought I’d ask. Thought about removing the entire cig/ash tray assembly too.

I believe all you need to do is twist off the back and it should let the whole thing slide out the front. Not a big deal. The outer case is the ground so once you remove it and the hot wire from the center, it should just pull out to the front.

I tried that but I’ll try again. On other cars that’s how it work but this is probably a 30 year old stuck on lighter.

With all the twisting, pulling and cussing you're probably going to break it anyway. Might have a clip in the back or some metal flex spring. What's the plan after you remove the cig lighter? They can be useful for accessory 12V plug-in power. I got a plug-in voltmeter in my cig lighter to keep tabs on the voltage. It may not be super accurate but receiving consistent voltage readings tells me the relative health of the charging system.

Yeah, you’re probably right. I plan on removing the entire assembly. I “think” I know where all the screws are. Cussing is right. LOL.

My plan after I remove it is to put in a two port 12v power outlet for a phone charger and any other device that might need it.

The cig lighter/ashtray assembly came out very easily. 3 screws. Disconnect the wire, and also found a bad fuse. Probably the issue to start and I should have checked it to start with. But I found a new power station that has one cig lighter type plug and 2 usb ports. I’ll buy it and install tomorrow. Pics to follow. While doing this, I’ve been able to determine that who ever installed the radio did a “poor” job with the wiring.

New power port installed in place of the old cig lighter and ashtray. Works well. IMG_4136.jpgIMG_4135.jpg

    It’s a custom accessories dual usb - 18003. I bought it at O’reilly.
