    Do the numbers on the engine tell you what year model the engine is? Any other information? I've done some tinkering with old tractors. Their engine numbers meant something. I wondered if jeeps were similar.

    Yes it's your motor build specs. Engine size, carb, date of build etc. The remainder of your Jeeps specs are in the vin number. The number stamped on the motor is JUST your motors specs.
