My 4.0 engine starts fine and will continue to run as long as I hold the key in the start position. If I go back to the run position the engine quits.
Some older engines had a resistor in he ignition circuit to limit the voltage (8 v) during "run". The resistor was bypassed in "start" to ease starting (12v).
If the resistor burned out the no run problem would occur.
Where is the ignition resistor ( if any) on this Jeep?
Could the problem be in the ignition control module?

On second thought, I wonder if the problem is in the ignition switch.
