My Jeep Commander engaged the 4 wheel drive today on its own, I was driving at low speed and all of a sudden came to a abrupt stop, sounded like the tranny fell out, after being towed to a dealer, they found my front axle had snapped and my transfer case cracked. has anyone ever had this happen to where the 4 wheel engaged on its own?

Welcome @mnewk1 ...too bad about your troubles but I think even the base Commanders had a full-time 4WD system. It's going to be an expensive repair if those components are damaged.
