Got to where I am pulling apart my 1983 CJ -5 Jeep Renegade and was wondering if the 258 4.2 Straight 6 that's in it was the original engine that came in this Jeep. I found the Stamping for the Build Date that Reads "207C12" which from research Decodes into 07/12/1982 and the C being the correct engine and the date looks about right to me, but I can not seem to find a VIN anywhere on the Engine. I did some searching and it looks like I see a lot of people saying Jeeps did not stamp VIN anywhere on the block. Does anyone know if this is true...if not where should I look for it?
