My 2009 Rubicon started a loud ticking sound, at the same time, check engine light and change oil notifications appeared. My mechanic said if it has hydrolic lifters that add transmission fluid may solve it???

^Your mechanic is going by some old homemade remedy of flushing your engine oil with ATF, the idea being that ATF is thinner and can flush out sludge. Don't do this! ATF may cause seal swelling and leaks.

Plug in a scanner and see what the code says.

Change the oil with 0W30 synthetic (thinnest oil that still meets engine requirements) and see if symptoms disappear.

the reason your mechanic recommended trans fluid is because of all the detergents in trans fluid not to swell anything but thin oil will also work
