when and where is this Conroe swap meet. I would love to go. Swap meets are few and far between these days. Gear heads are a dying breed.

"Big V8"? Do you mean like a 454? Or are you talking like a 350? Not much weight difference in the 350 and the 258. That 258 is HEAVY!

Kinda in between,,, a GM Performance HT383,,,, 325 HP at 4500 RPM and 415 foot pounds torque at 3500 RPM bone stock. You can do just a few mods like cam,,, intake and carb,,, roller rockers and a little head work and get 460 HP and 500 pounds torque. That's not a bad engine for the money I can get it for. I owned it and sold to a guy who was going to put in a Jeep rock crawler then he found one already done and will sell it back to me. It'll need to be gone through and freshened up and the mods done but would be one heck of a motor when done.

So not sure about weight difference between an AMC 360 and a GM383 but probably not enough to worry about. I'm thinking the spring over would still handle it fine. Maybe upgraded shocks too :)

Google Conroe swap meet,,,, it'll come up as Hot Rods of Texas,,, there are 3 meets each year,,, the first one is February 17-19 rain or shine,,, it's usually a pretty big one if the weather is good as everyone is getting there winter stuff out for sale. The next one will be in March and is also a pretty big one as it's not too cold or hot normally. The website as all the info to read up on along with the other swap meets supported by Hot Rods of Texas.

The 383 is the same block as the 350 so it will have the same weight. It won't be too heavy, and the fact that it is a stroker motor gives it a ton of low end torque. I think I will try to go to that swap meet if I don't find a NP205 before then.

    It's gonna be a beast with a 383. I had a strong 383 in a Suburban. I can imagine one in a Jeep.

Way cool guy's,,,, I've found a 76 CJ that has a SBC 350 in it and swapping in the 383 would be a breeze. Hope to get it picked up soon, weather and going on vacation has hampered the pick up. Just might be selling the YJ next :) Will post pix of the 76 when I get it home.

How does the 350 run? Is it fuel injected?

Is this the Jeep (YJ with atlas tcase) you ended up getting. Sounds like an awesome rig. The Atlas is worth 2g by itself. Most 283-400 sized V8s are within 200 or less pounds of the 258 I6. That I6 is a lot or steel and weighs a ton. Not enough to worry about.

I have heard that the Rubicon 4.6 is a great lift. My buddy loves his. Are you a member of Texas Jeep Swap Shop and Texas Jeep Parts for Sale on Facebook. I see lots of great deals on Jeeps needing a lot of work on both pages. Also check out General Sams offroad park on facebook. They have a lot of stuff for sale.
