    I use a homemade taillight mount on the driver side for my HF antenna (102" whip and homemade loading coil).
    For VHF/UHF voice I put an 5/8 wave 2m Larsen antenna (dual band Browning BR-180b antenna in the Jeep incase I need it) on the roof (doesn't work for you) and for APRS I mounted a 5/8 wave 2m Larsen antenna on one of my roof rack cross bars.

    For you if you only want VHF/UHF I would put a Browning BR-180b on a front fender mount on the driver side.
    Arizona Rocky Road does make an antenna mount for the tailgate that puts the antenna above the spare tire, they offer it with 3/8x24 mount (CB) or NMO.
    Are you wanting to do HF mobile as well? That's a whole different can of worms.

    Thanks for the info!
    If I do put my rig in, I'll go with the spare tire option.
    There's just not a lot of room...
    And, although my HF rig is a mobile unit ( Icom 7000 ), I think I'll stick with VHF/UHF in the Jeep.
