    Can you substitute Tow Straps for Tow Chains or Tow Cables in California?

    California tends to be more strict than Texas and we have recently outlawed the use of towing a vehicle with Chains, cables, straps and ropes on public roadways. You have to use a trailer, dolly or towbar. Maybe you are referring to the chains you connect to the bumper when you are towing a trailer?

    Yes. I am going to tow with a tow bar and only talking about the safety chains, cables and straps in emergency separation of Jeep from the tow bar hitch like a runaway.

    Item Closed. A member said the safety chains attach to the RV and Tow Bar not the towed vehicle :)
