I'm about to buy a winch on a budget of about 300 dollars. I've narrowed it down to the Smittybilt xrc 9500 or the superwinch 8500. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Quadratec. They have a huge selection, and have comparison charts explaining the differences.

If you intend to use it for more than looks and will need to rely on it getting you home, Warn is always the right answer. If you can afford one. Just my .02. I use a winch A LOT! I used my winch 3 times just last Sunday.

So I have ended up with a Warn 8274 8,000 lb. it's used but in really good shape and I got it for the same money I could have gotten the 8500 lb superwinch. I actually ended up getting the winch, front bumper with mount and rear bumper for about 400 dollars so I'm pretty happy about it all and plan on installing it all on Monday or Tuesday.

Got the bumpers on today getting winch and plate on tomorrow. Bumpers need painting and have a couple of small dents but nothing too bad especially for the price I got them for.

That is an old Warn. Made when they were really good. What are you going to do with your old front bumper? If you would be willing to ship it I'd buy it from you. That would bring your over out of pocket a little lower on your recent purchase. I'm rebuilding a 94 YJ and the tube bumper is all banged up. I like the old factory bumper anyway.
